CAI Flashback

When is a gala not a gala? When it is an awards banquet! In the early years of our chapter’s history, our annual award winners were recognized at a banquet—not a gala as we know today.

Under “Coming Events” in the December 1991 issue, it was noted that on December 3, the new chapter would hold its first annual Community Association of the Year Awards event. It was advertised as a “social event to celebrate our successful first year as a CAI chapter. Spouses, significant others, co-workers and guests are cordially invited. No-host bar at 6PM, buffet dinner at 7PM at the Spanish Trail Country Club. $23 per person.”

Much like today, awards were given to small, medium, large, and very large associations; there were also committee awards, special recognition awards, and president’s awards.

A very special award was given at the October 1994 banquet. “Because there is no category for a person who has been the heart of CAI of Southern Nevada since its inception, who has supported members, committees, and the board, who has never said no to any task, and has done so much to build the chapter, Gary Lein of Hillburn & Lein was presented a special award, appropriately named, ‘The Driving Force.’”

Gary continues to be a driving force in our chapter today. Thank you, Gary!
